When robots get nervous

"How can you call this a life?" the university graduate from Senegal said, her head swiveling in fear.

Sometimes when writers draw you a word picture, you just want to quietly hand 'em the word eraser and hope they get the idea.

I thought that signaled demonic possession rather than fear.

Right, good point, but given that Friedkin (1973) suggests that horking up pea-green soup on Max von Sydow is more generally diagnostic of demon possession, I think we need to order more tests.

Not trying to start an argument or anything -- just reminding the first-year students that the clinical situation is often more complicated than what we present them with in the classroom. Especially in your demon situations.

Yes, right, that's why I said "signaled".

More tests are definitely needed. (And yes, the passive voice will be used by me and none shall question my diction, as the saying goes...)
